Political activist Motahareh Gounei arrested in Tehran

Political activist Motahareh Gounei was arrested in Tehran on Saturday over her social media posts about Israeli airstrikes on military targets in Iran.

News Center- Motahareh Gounei, an Iranian student activist and the former political secretary of the Islamic Association of Students at the University of Tehran, was arrested in Tehran on Saturday without a judicial warrant and transferred her to an unknown location.

According to local sources, she was arrested over her posts on social media platform X, criticizing the government’s response to Israeli airstrikes on Iran and calling for public protection measures.

On May 1, 2024, Motahareh Gounei was arrested and transferred to Evin Prison after participating in a sit-in protest against the death sentence issued for Toomaj Salehi. On May 5, 2025, she was released on bail of 1.2 billion tomans.
