Peace Mother Xeme Akdoğan dies at 85
Xeme Akdoğan, a member of the Peace Mothers’ Initiative, has died at the age of 85.
Wan- 85-year-old Xeme Akdoğan, a member of the Peace Mothers’ Initiative in Wan (Van), was taken from the intensive care unit to a regular hospital room yesterday after staying in the intensive care unit for 15 days. She died from a heart attack in the morning at 4 o’clock. Today, she was sent off on her last journey in the Karşıyaka Cemetery.
She struggled for 20 years
Born in the Pirosa (Bölecek) village of Şırnak’s Elkê (Beytüşşebap) district, she left her village in 1985 due to the oppression of the Turkish state and settled in the Dotka (Yemişli), a village in the Gever (Yüksekova) district of Colemêrg (Hakkari) province. However, her family and she faced the oppression of the state again. So they moved to Xaçort (Hacıbekir) neighborhood of Wan's Reya Armuşê (İpekyolu) district in 1997.
She struggled for peace for about 20 years. In 20 years, she was detained, arrested and tortured many times. Despite everything, she never gave up on her struggle for peace.
