Benghazi – Arab-African Academy for Studies has launched a national campaign with the support of the Department of Reproduction and Laparoscopic Surgery at Al-Hawari General Hospital to raise awareness of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). The campaign aims to raise awareness of women between the ages of 15-30. The campaign will last until September 16.

We met Dr. Hunaida Al-Majrab, the head of the Department of Reproduction and Laparoscopic Surgery at Al-Hawari General Hospital to learn more information about the campaign launched in Libya.

Early diagnosis is important

Noting that September is PCOS Awareness Month, Dr. Hunaida Al-Majrab told us that the campaign first launched in Tripoli has continued in Benghazi since the beginning of September. “An awareness workshop will be organized for women within the scope of the campaign. Women will learn the symptoms of this disorder and understand what the disorder is and how it can be treated. How women and girls can determine if they have PCOS? Women will be informed about that. Early diagnosis is important for treatment because late diagnosis causes difficulties in treatment.”

They want to determine people diagnosed with PCOS by conducting a survey

Dr. Hunaida Al-Majrab told us that they want to inform women about all the details of PCOS. “We will prepare a survey to be filled by doctors. We will carry out extensive research about women aged between 15 and 30. In this way, we want to determine the number of people with PCOS to treat them. Culture is important to raise awareness of PCOS. Every mother should take care of her daughter’s health. Some of the symptoms of PCOS are overweight, severe acne, hair loss, and irregular periods.”

The disease is spreading

We also spoke to Dr. Atiqa Agribel, who supports the awareness campaign. She told us that the disease is spreading in Libya.

Hamida Alabbar is a doctor working at the Al-Marj Teaching Hospital. “All gynecologists and dermatologists in Al-Marj support the campaign because it is important.”
