News Center – Sudan is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis amid escalating fighting between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), with the city of Al-Fasher falling into RSF hands. The forces have committed widespread violations against civilians, while international warnings point to famine and total collapse.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced in a statement yesterday, Sunday, November 9, that the number of displaced people from Al-Fasher in North Darfur state, Sudan, since October 26, has reached 88,892, following the registration of an additional 7,075 displaced individuals during the past period.

The organization noted that its displacement tracking matrix estimates an additional 7,075 people displaced from Al-Fashir during the period from November 5 to 8, due to deteriorating security conditions. This deterioration is attributed to the RSF’s control over the city and the subsequent serious violations against civilians, according to reports from local and international institutions.

The IOM clarified in its statement that the announced numbers are preliminary and may change amid ongoing insecurity and the accelerating pace of displacement. Reports indicate that the displaced are moving toward scattered areas in the localities of Long, Al-Fasher, Mellit, and Saraf Omra in North Darfur state.

The statement added that since October 26, approximately 88,892 people have been displaced from Al-Fasher and surrounding villages. Field teams observed severe insecurity on the roads, which could hinder movement. It also confirmed that the situation continues to experience ongoing tension and volatility amid persistent lawlessness and continued population displacement.

The IOM reported that more than 81,000 people have been displaced from Al-Fasher and its surrounding areas due to escalating violence and deteriorating security conditions in the region.
