“Our aim is to change the gendered mentality”
The three-day training held by the Kongra Star in Hasakah with the motto, “Jin, Jiyan Azadi: Against the gendered mentality” to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against women ended.
Hasakah- Women’s organizations and movements in North and East Syria has launched a campaign to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The Kongra Star in Hasakah held a three-day training for 80 male members of NGOs on November 19 to raise awareness about violence against women as part of the campaign. The three-day training ended yesterday. During the training, men learned women’s history and the history of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The training was held at the Martyr Perwin Academy in Hasakah by Koçer Hisên, member of the Education Committee of the Kongra Star, and Semer Ebdullah, co-chair of the Peoples’ Assembly in Hasakah.
In an interview with NuJINHA, Şikriya Hisên, coordinating member of the Kongra Star in Hasakah, pointed out that every individual in society should know the reality and history of women. Indicating that they launched the campaign with women’s organizations and women’s movements on November 12, Şikriya Hisên said, “Many activities, events, seminars and training courses have been held as part of the campaign. Our main aim is to change the gendered mentality and promote women’s history. Every individual must believe that women are builders of societies. The mentality that has been imposed on societies for thousands of years has separated the people in societies from each other. We want to return our society to its true nature, in which men and women have equal rights. For this reason, we held a three-day training course. Changing our society is, of course, not easy; however, it is not impossible.
“Such a training course should be organized for everyone”
Telal Coher, member of the Peoples’ Assembly in the Sifeya town of Hasakah, was one of the men attending the training. He thanked the Kongra Star for giving them the opportunity to learn women's history. He told us that such a training course should be organized for everyone in society to change the gendered mentality.
