Norwegian Nobel Committee urges Iran to provide medical assistance to Narges Mohammadi
The Norwegian Nobel Committee on Monday urged Iranian authorities to provide medical help to 2023 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi.
News Center- Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi began a hunger strike Monday over being blocked along with other inmates from getting medical care. The Norwegian Nobel Committee released a statement on Tuesday and urged Iranian authorities to provide medical help to Narges Mohammadi.
“The Norwegian Nobel Committee is deeply concerned about the health of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi after she has been denied medical treatment. The requirement that female inmates must wear a hijab in order to be hospitalized, is inhumane and morally unacceptable,” the statement said. “Narges Mohammadi's initiation of a hunger strike demonstrates the seriousness of the situation. The Norwegian Nobel Committee urges the Iranian authorities to provide Narges Mohammadi, and other female inmates, with whatever medical assistance they may need.”
