Nobel Peace Prize 2023 awarded to Narges Mohammadi
The Nobel Peace Prize for 2023 has been awarded to Narges Mohammadi for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all.
News Center- The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize for 2023 to Narges Mohammadi for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all.
“This prize is first and foremost a recognition of the very important work of a whole movement in Iran with its undisputed leader, Nargis Mohammadi,” said Berit Reiss-Andersen, the chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee who announced the prize in Oslo on Friday.
Berit Reiss-Andersen also said, “If the Iranian authorities make the right decision, they will release her. So she can be present to receive this honor, which is what we primarily hope for.”
Describing Nargis Mohammadi as a “freedom fighter”, Berit Reiss-Andersen chanted the “Women, Life, Freedom” slogan in Farsi. “This year’s Peace Prize also recognizes the hundreds of thousands of people who in the preceding year have demonstrated against the theocratic regimes’ policies of discrimination and oppression targeting women,” she said.
19th woman who wins the Nobel Peace Prize
Narges Mohammadi becomes the 19th woman, who wins the Nobel Peace Prize. The prize ceremony will be held in Oslo on December 10. The Norwegian Nobel Committee says it hopes Iran will release Narges Mohammadi so she can attend the prize ceremony.
The Iranian regime has arrested Narges Mohammadi 13 times, convicted her five times, and sentenced her to a total of 31 years in prison and 154 lashes. She has been held in Evin Prison in Tehran.
