Amed (Diyarbakır)- Newroz began to be celebrated in Kurdish cities on March 15 with the motto, “It is the time of freedom and victory.” Today, Newroz will be celebrated in Amed. Since early morning, thousands have been flocking to Newroz Park in Amed’s Rezan (Bağlar) district to celebrate Newroz.

Thousands of people from all districts and villages of Amed and all over the world, especially European countries, have gathered at Newroz Park to celebrate Newroz. Amed Newroz celebrations are covered by hundreds of journalists.

Newroz enthusiasm in the streets

People wearing their traditional clothes have been waiting at checkpoints to enter the park despite the rain. People have been chanting slogans such as “Bijî Serok Apo (Long live leader Apo- Abdullah Öcalan)” and “Bijî berxwedana zindanan (long live the resistance in prisons)”. Newroz enthusiasm spreads in the streets of Amed.

Celebrations begin

Citizens entering the area from six checkpoints begin to dance halay accompanied by drums and pipes. People, mostly women and young people, continue to flock to Newroz Park to celebrate Newroz.
