Moroccan women stand in solidarity with Iranian women by cutting their hair
Moroccan women have launched a solidarity campaign with Iranian women to demand fair and equal rights and to protest all forms of violence against women.
Morocco- Moroccan women support the protests that started in Iran following the killing of Jina Mahsa Amini by Iranian so-called ‘morality police’.
23 Moroccan women, including artists, writers, film producers, activists and journalists, have shared a video on social media. In the video, the women cut their hair to express their solidarity with Iranian women. The women say they support the protesters in Iran and all around the world.
The women shared the video after the death of a Moroccan teenager named Mariam, who died after undergoing an unauthorized abortion to get rid of a pregnancy that resulted from rape.
Message from Moroccan women on the National Moroccan Women’s Day
The video was shared on social media on October 10, the National Moroccan Women’s Day. In the video entitled, “For Mahsa Amini, Mariam and All Other Women”, women say, “Cut your hair for the rights of half of society.”
In a short time, the video went viral on social media and many Moroccan women shared videos showing they cut their hair under the hashtag, “حقوقنا (English: Our Rights)”.
