Many dead after earthquake hits Kurdistan
A major earthquake of magnitude 7.4 hit Kurdish cities in the morning at 04.17, killing many people as many buildings collapsed.
News Center- A major earthquake hit Kurdish cities in the morning at 04:17. Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) has announced the magnitude of the earthquake that was centered in the Şehitkamil district of Antep province. The earthquake was felt in many cities of Kurdistan, including Dîlok (Antep), Mereş, Amed, Riha (Urfa), Meletî (Malatya), Semsûr (Adıyaman). After the earthquake, many buildings have collapsed. Many casualties have been reported from cities, where people stay outside in fear.
AFAD has also announced many aftershocks. According to reports, seven buildings have collapsed in Amed (Diyarbakır). Three 17-storey buildings have collapsed in Adana and 16 buildings have collapsed in Riha (Urfa).
AFAD has announced that at least 76 people have lost their lives in seven cities and at least 440 people have been injured. A "level 4 alarm" that calls for international assistance has been declared in Turkey.
