Semsur (Adıyaman) - 25-year-old Canan Işık was killed by Mahmut Işık in Semsur on January 17,2021. Canan Işık was subjected to violence during her 5-year marriage and got a restraining order against him. However, she was killed by Mahmut Işık a day before the first court hearing for divorce. Mahmut Işık has been sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment on charges of “deliberately killing” his wife.

She was killed a day before the first court hearing for divorce

Mother of two, Canan Işık went to her family home after being subjected to violence during her 5-year marriage. She returned to Adıyaman, her home after Mahmut Işık’s brother, a specialist sergeant, told her, “He cannot do anything, I will protect you”. However, she was subjected violence again. She got a restraining order against Mahmut Işık and stayed in a women’s shelter.

The autopsy report detected many injuries caused by a sharp object

Despite the restraining order, Canan Işık received death threats and she was attacked and killed by Mahmut Işık in the city center on January 17,2021. The Autopsy report detected many injuries on her body caused by a sharp object. In the indictment prepared in the murder case, the prosecution demanded Mahmut Işık be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment.

The final hearing of the murder trial was held by the Adıyaman 1st High Criminal Court on September 12. Mahmut Işık has been sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment on charges of “deliberately killing” his wife. After the final hearing, Canan Işık’s family said, “Justice has been served,” and called for measures to be taken against femicide.
