Journalist Roza Metina faces 10 years prison sentence

An indictment has been prepared against journalist-author Roza Metina. She has faced 10 years prison sentence on the charges of “being a member of a terrorist organization”.
Amed – On November 20, 2020, many journalists, lawyers, and authors were detained due to an investigation opened against the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Roza Metina, Jinnews’ Kurdish editor-in-chief, member of Kurdish Pen, was one of the detained people. On November 23, 2020, she was released under judicial control. An indictment has been prepared against Rosa Metina on charges of being a member of a terrorist organization.
The indictment was presented to the court
The indictment prepared by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has been accepted by the court. As the indictment against Roza Metina seems to be prepared in the form of cut-copy-paste, the testimony given by Roza Metina has been included in the indictment. In her testimony, Roza Metina said, “I am an author, the information in the digital documents is published under my author identity, I don’t know who provided the information. I bought the banned books before they were banned.”
First hearing will be held on May 27
The Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has demanded up to 10 years prison sentence for Roza Metina in the indictment. The first hearing of the trial will be held on May 27 by Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court.
