Journalist Pınar Gayıp released
Etkin News Agency (ETHA) editor Pınar Gayıp was released on Monday evening after testifying in a court.
News Center- Etkin News Agency (ETHA) editor Pınar Gayıp was detained early Monday after being summoned to a police station in Istanbul following numerous criminal complaints from lawyer Sezgin Keleş, who has harassed the journalist due to her reporting on his conviction for “simple sexual assault.”
The journalist was released after testifying in the 3rd Criminal Court of Peace at the Istanbul Anatolia Courthouse.
“Lawyer Sezgin Keleş sexually harassed the trainee lawyer working for him. The woman reached me and I conducted an interview with the evidence she gave me,” the journalist said in her testimony. “After the interview was published, a person who said he was Sezgin Keleş's lawyer threatened me to withdraw the interview. Then, he threatened me on Twitter; I was insulted. Keleş also targeted me in his own trial. He was sentenced to prison on charges of ‘Simple sexual assault’. My reporting is not a lie or a slander. However, I am constantly summoned to testify and prevented from working.”
