Journalist Nujiyan Erhan commemorated in Shengal

Journalist Nujiyan Erhan was commemorated in Shengal today, on the 6th anniversary of her murder.

News Center- On March 3, 2017, journalist Nûjiyan Erhan was injured in the attack carried out by Roj Peshmerga affiliated to the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) while covering a clash that broke out in the Xanesor town of Shengal. She was taken to the Hasakah Hospital; however, she died at the hospital on March 22.

Today is the 6th anniversary of her murder. Today, Yazidi women do not forget Nujiyan Erhan, who made the voices of Yazidi women heard all around the world. Today, the Yazidi women journalists held a commemoration ceremony by the grave of Nujiyan Erhan in Shengal Mountains. The journalists also released a statement during the ceremony.

 ‘She became the voice of Shengal’

“When ISIS attacked Shengal in 2014, Comrade Nujiyan came to Shengal to report the truth to the world. She built her whole life on the search for truth and freedom. She became the voice of Shengal by reporting from the battlefields. In her reports, she wrote about both the KDP’s betrayal in Shengal and the resistance of Yazidi women and freedom fighters,” the statement said.

 ‘We will follow the truth’

“Nujiyan Erhan was deliberately targeted by KDP forces,” the statement added, “As the Yazidi women journalists, we are determined to take over the legacy left by Martyr Nujiyan. Like Comrade Nujiyan, we report the truth to the whole world. We will follow the truth in all spheres of life so that the pen and camera of Comrade Nujiyan do not remain on the ground.”
