Journalist arrested for reporting on sexual abuse case
Journalist Sinan Aygül has been sent to prison for reporting on sexual abuse case in the district of Tatvan.
Bedlîs (Bitlis)- While those who defend rights and justice in Turkey face legal harassment, those who kill women and inflict violence against women or rape women in the country are almost rewarded and encouraged by judicial decisions. Yesterday morning, journalist Sinan Aygül, president of the Bitlis Journalists’ Association, has been sent to prison on charges of “inciting hatred and hostility” for his report on a sexual abuse case in the Tatvan district of Bitlis province.
“I was detained on charges of inciting hatred and enmity for reporting a child abuse case three hours ago. My house is currently being searched by the police. I am being detained and taken to the police station. I am a journalist; journalism is not a crime,” the journalist tweeted before being detained.
Shortly after his tweet, the journalist was taken into custody and then sent to prison.
