Hasakah- Zirgan, a town of Hasakah Canton, is targeted by the Turkish attacks almost every day. Despite the ongoing Turkish attacks, killing dozens, targeting energy supplies, water resources and agricultural fields, the people of Zirgan are determined to resist the attacks.

The women of Zirgan say that the aim of the ongoing Turkish attacks is to commit genocide and displace the people of North and East Syria.

‘Forced displacement is a special war policy’

Selwa Hecî Mihemed had to leave Dawidiya Mele Salman, a village in the west of Zirgan, due to the Turkish attacks. She now lives in Zirgan with her family. She criticizes those who try to go to European countries. “They die in the forests due to climatic conditions, or drown in the sea. What is important for smugglers is money. They do not care if young people die. Families should prevent their children from going to European countries.”

‘Our country needs us’

She called on those who try to go to European countries to “stay in your country. Instead of giving your money to smugglers, you can develop projects for your people. Fleeing to Europe is not the solution. Our country needs us. We do not leave our country to defend it. If we die, we should die with dignity. The people, who fled to other countries, die many times. As the people of Zirgan, we will never leave our land and we will defend our land.”

‘It is time to defend our land’

Edla Hesen drew attention to the internally displaced people and the people, who went to other countries. “We are internally displaced in our country. We live to return to our villages. I do not understand how people, especially young people, leave their country. We want to return to our villages even if we have only bread and water. It is time to defend our land, not leaving it. Our country needs us to fight the enemy. We will stay here until the end.”
