Investigation launched against journalist Medine Mamedoğlu over social media posts

Turkish authorities have launched an investigation against journalist Medine Mamedoğlu over her social media posts on police violence against a child in Colemêrg (Hakkari).

Amed (Diyarbakır)- Turkish authorities have launched an investigation against journalist Medine Mamedoğlu over her social media posts on police violence against a child in Colemêrg (Hakkari) during the protests sparked in many Kurdish cities following the dismissal of Co-mayors of Van in April, 2024.

 During the protests in the city of Colemêrg (Hakkari), police officers in plain clothes beat and forcibly detained a child. Journalist Medine Mamedoğlu filmed the incident and published it on her social media account. According to the reports, an investigation has been launched against the journalist on charges of “inciting the public to commit acts against internal security”.

In her statement at the Diyarbakır Provincial Police Department, Medine Mamedoğlu denied the accusation against her, stating that her posts did not constitute a crime and that her posts were as part of her journalistic activities.
