The Youth Commission of the Human Rights Association (IHD) in Ankara protested the detention and transfer of Nanaxanim Babazade, an Azerbaijani graduate student, to a repatriation center, demanding her immediate release.

Ankara- The Youth Commission of the Human Rights Association (IHD) in Ankara protested the detention and transfer of Nanaxanim Babazade, an Azerbaijani graduate student, to a repatriation center on August 21, 2025 after she took part in a student protest against rising meal prices at İstanbul University.
The members of the Youth Commission gathered at the Sakarya Square on Monday and held a banner reading, “We stand with Nana against oppression and torture”.
Nanaxanim Babazade was subjected to both physical and sexual violence by the police in detention, said Zeynep Camcı, a member of the commission.
“Nana was left without water and food during the detention procedure and her basic human rights were not even met. The appeals process against her deportation is still going on. Nana faces the threat of being sent back to her country, Azerbaijan, where she received death threats. Just as we stand against all injustice, we also stand against the detention of Nana on baseless allegations.”
The members of the commission demanded the immediate release of Nanaxanim Babazade.
