Idlib – Trying to survive under difficult conditions in the camps, interior displaced people in Idlib face many problems due to bad weather conditions. Magda Al-Harani, 36, lives in one of these camps. She says they face the same problems every year.

“When it rains, everywhere becomes muddy. Although we try to clean it, we cannot. I have four children and my husband is a cardiac patient. We often take shelter in the houses next to the camp in winter due to storms,” Magda Al-Harani told NuJINHA.

‘We begin to worry when it rains’

Underlining that their tent is damaged due to the rain, she said, “When the rain stops, we start fixing our tent. We begin to worry when it rains because we know that we will be affected. Our tents are very old and cannot protect us in winter.”

‘We want to have a good life like everyone else’

“We want to have a good life like everyone else,” Magda Al-Harani said, “We were forcibly displaced from the village of Deir al-Gharbi about four years ago. Since then, we have been suffering from poverty and the lack of security. We demand better living conditions be provided for us.”

 ‘Mud is everywhere now’

33-year-old Sanaa al-Jarru and her three children get sick due to torrential rains. She also says that their tents do not protect them in winter. “We had to leave the town of Saraqib about five years ago. Due to heavy rain, our tents are submerged and mud is everywhere now. My children's clothes are always wet and we make a great effort to stay warm. We had difficulties in providing clean water and food for days because rain blocked the roads.”
