Ankara- The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) will hold its 6th congress at the World Trade Center in Ankara on Sunday, August 27. Considering the risk of closure, the HDP will hand over its organization to the Party of Greens and the Left Future (Green Left Party). At the congress, the HDP will name Sultan Özcan and Cahit Kırkazak as new party’s co-chairs.

Previously, current HDP Co-chairs Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar announced that they would not run for the party’s co-chairs. Sultan Özcan and Cahit Kırkazak will replace current HDP co-chairs.

Sultan Özcan has held various positions within the HDP, most recently serving as Co-spokesperson of the HDP Committee on Relations with civil society organizations and political parties. Cahit Kırkazak has served both as one of the lawyers in the Kobanê Trial and as Green Left Party Central Executive Board member.
