Gülistan Sönük: We will resist no matter what it costs

“We will resist no matter what it costs. We will not take a step back until the thieves are gone,” said Êlih Co-mayor Gülistan Sönük.

Êlih (Batman)- Many people gathering in Êlih (Batman) to protest the removal of the elected Co-mayors of Mardin, Batman and Halfeti. Young people coming together from different neighborhoods of the city held a march to the municipal building. After the march, Êlih Co-mayor Gülistan Sönük made a short statement.

 ‘We will not give the municipality to usurpers’

“We will not take even a step back until the thieves are gone,” said Gülistan Sönük. “This municipality exists thanks to the efforts of children, women and young people. We will not give the municipality to usurpers despite police and state violence.”

 ‘We will resist no matter what it costs’

The police try to intimidate the people and our party members by threatening them with arrest and detention, Gülistan Sönük stressed. “They say, ‘We will beat you and detain you’. I call them to look around; none of us is afraid of being detained. We will not allow you to usurp our will again. We will resist no matter what it costs.”

After the speech of Gülistan Sönük, people chanted the slogan saying, “Kurdistan will be a grave for fascism”.

 Co-chairs in the city

A delegation consisting of Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Co-chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan and Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-chair Keskin Bayındır came to the city. The Co-chairs and many people held a march to the municipal building, chanting “Êlih is ours, it is our will”.
