Femicides increase in Federal Kurdistan
The report released by the Platform for Combating Violence Against Women reveals that the rate of violence against women in the Federal Kurdistan Region (also known as Iraqi Kurdistan) in September was higher than in the previous two months. Six women were killed by men in September, according to the report.
Sulaymaniyah – Six women, two in Erbil, three in Duhok, and one in Sulaymaniyah, were killed by men in September, seven more died under suspicious circumstances, according to the 2021 September Report of the Platform for Combating Violence Against Women.
447 women subjected to violence in September
According to the official figures, 447 incidents of violence against women were recorded in September; 632 incidents in Erbil, 308 in Duhok, 322 in Sulaymaniyah, 112 in Garmiyan, 28 in Soran, and 62 in Raperîn.
22 women subjected to sexual violence
22 women were subjected to sexual violence in September; seven in Erbil, nine in Duhok, and two women in Soran, according to the report.
The Platform for Combating Violence Against Women underlined in the report that the figures in the report are official figures and the number may is higher.
