Families of victims of Suruç Massacre stand trial
The relatives of the victims of the Suruç Massacre stood trial on charges of “threating and insulting” the court for reacting to the court to fail to find the perpetrators of their murdered relatives in Suruç.
Riha (Urfa)- The third hearing of the trial against the nine relatives of the victims of the Suruç Massacre was held today by the Urfa 5th Criminal Court of First Instance. The relatives of the victims of the Suruç Massacre stand trial on charges of “treating and insulting” the court because they reacted to the court failing to find the perpetrators of their murdered relatives during the 21st hearing of the massacre trial held on October 21, 2021.
Lawyers Ayşe Şehriban Demirel, Dicle Aksu and Serdar Tüm, members of the Lawyers Association for Freedom (ÖHD) Riha Branch, attended the hearing.
Lawyer demanded the records of SEGBİS
At the hearing, lawyer Ayşe Şehriban Demirel demanded the records of the Audio-Visual Information System (SEGBİS) to see if the relatives insulted the court or not and she requested extra time to prepare a defense.
The hearing adjourned
The prosecutor demanded the correction of the deficiencies. The court ordered the participation of Şahin Tümüklü, Co-chair of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP), who has been held in Marmara Closed Prison, in the next hearing through the SEGBİS, and the records of the 21st hearing of the massacre trial held by the Urfa 5th High Criminal Court on October 21, 2021 to be sent to the court. The next hearing will be held on February 7, 2024.
A suicide attack was carried out against the members of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Youth Wing and the Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF) and activists. 33 people were killed and 104 were reported injured in the attack. Since then, the families of the victims have been seeking justice.
