Kobanî – 25 November is the International Day to End Violence against Women and marks the beginning of 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence. Sara Organization for the Elimination of Violence Against Women has organized many activities and events in Kobanî to combat and raise awareness of violence against women. The organization has already held seminars in villages, towns, and districts and hung banners reading, “My voice is your voice”, “No to violence”, “Let’s build a world without violence” and “Let’s end violence together” across Kobanî. We spoke to Qudret Osman, a member of the Sara Organization, about their activities and events.
“We care about the problems of our society”
Noting that violence against women is also the violence against society, Qudret Osman said, “Mostly women and children are victims of war and massacres in the region. In recent years, many women have been subjected to violence, femicide, and suicide. This violence is also spreading and increasing in society. We, as Sara Organization, care about the problems of our society.”
“We do not accept slavery”
Stating that they hung banners across the city to mark November 25th, Qudret Osman said, “We have already prepared our programs for November 25. We visit house by house to raise awareness of violence against women. We should fight against violence to prevent violence against women. We aim to end violence against women in Kobanî. We do not accept slavery. We have held meetings with young people because young people are also subjected to violence. The women facing violence should know that there are organizations to protect them. They should apply these organizations.”
