News Center- The European Parliament’s Türkiye rapporteur, Nacho Sánchez Amor has posted a message on his X account regarding the detention of Mehmet Sıddık Akış, the elected Co-mayor of Hakkari, and the appointment of a trustee to the municipality in Hakkari.

‘Total disregard to people’s will’

“And so it begins again: The People's Equality and Democracy Party’s elected mayor of Hakkari, Mehmet Sıddık Akış, was arrested and replaced by a trustee from the government. Blatant attack to democratic principles and total disregard to people's will: fastest way for the Turkish government to demolish any hope of accession revival,” his post said.
