Emine Şenyaşar, who has been demanding justice in front of the Urfa Courthouse for 521st day, reacted to the obstacles of the police and said, “I will stay here until justice is delivered.”

Riha - The sit-in protest held in front of the Urfa Courthouse by Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were murdered in the attack carried out by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in the Suruç district of Urfa province on June 14, 2018, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar has continued for 521 days. The family members, who want to hold their sit-in protest in the shade at the entrance of the courthouse for four days due to the hot weather, have been blocked by the police today.

“Police did not allow me to sit down”

Reacting to the obstacles, Emine Şenyaşar said, “They (police) persecute us. Yesterday, they made us wait standing.  Police did not allow me to sit down and I was told, “Wait standing”. They forced me to wait standing. I have been sitting here for one year and five months. When justice is delivered, I will go home. Everyone should be in solidarity with us against this persecution. I will stay here until justice is delivered.”

“The power of the state exists to ensure law, justice and equality. The people govern the state and they will say no to this ongoing persecution,” the Şenyaşar family wrote on their social media account.
