The Co-mayors made short speeches after receiving their mandate.

Neslihan Şedal: Our hopes have been revived

After receiving the mandate, Neslihan Şedal said, “We have been struggling for centuries to re-ensure equality, justice and collective conscience in society. We would like to thank once again young people, women, people, mothers, non-governmental organizations and all the dynamics of our city for supporting us. We would like to thank people, who took to the streets and resisted to defend their democratic rights. The resistance of the people in Van has revived our hopes for rights, freedom and justice in society.”

Abdullah Zeydan: We all are responsible for building social peace

In his speech, Abdullah Zeydan thanked everyone, mentioning that they had gone through a process in which law and justice were suspended for a short time.

“We would like to thank the people of Van, who resisted for democracy, law and justice, and everyone who supported us. The decision of the YSK (Turkey’s Supreme Electoral Council) has further strengthened the will of the rule of law principle, justice, social peace, and an honorable life in our country. Our region no longer needs conflict and injustice. We all are responsible for building social peace and a life with dignity. It is time to bring social peace and provide good services to our beautiful city and our people. We get ready to find solutions to all problems in the city. We thank all our people.”
