Death toll in Evin prison rises to 8
The death toll from a fire at Iran’s Evin prison has risen from four to eight, authorities said. Relatives of prisoners worry about the health status of their relatives in the prison.
News Center- The death toll of the attack on Evin Prison in Tehran, the capital of Iran, continues to rise.
On the night of October 15, gunshots and explosions were heard from the Evin Prison in Tehran, and then a fire broke out in the prison and heavy smoke rose from the prison. The prison was surrounded by security forces and relatives of prisoners protested in front of the prison.
Iran's judiciary authority has announced that the death toll from the fire at Evin prison has risen from four to eight. In the statement, the judiciary authority said 61 prisoners were rescued and six more remain hospitalized, but in stable condition and improving. The identities of dead prisoners haven’t been shared.
Activist Neda Naji hospitalized
Mehrane Ghasemi, mother of labor and women’s rights activist Neda Naji, who was arrested in Iran protests following the killing of Jina Mahsa Amin and held in Ward 209 of Evin prison, told NuJINHA that her daughter has been hospitalized after suffering from breathing problems. She demanded the immediate release of her daughter.
