Alarming rise in security incidents and suicide in Syria during recent days

Rising security incidents and suicides in Syria reflect worsening living and mental health crises. Observatory: 18 civilians killed, 29 suicides since early 2026 amid no support, weapon spread, and security chaos.

News Center – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented the killing of 18 civilians, including four children and one woman, in sporadic security incidents in different areas of Syria over the past 72 hours. These incidents, which ranged from random gunfire, explosions caused by war remnants, and criminal acts, indicate the expansion of the state of security chaos and the uncontrolled spread of weapons.

In parallel, suicide cases continue at an escalating pace since the beginning of 2026. The Observatory has documented 29 cases, including two children and five women, distributed across most Syrian cities – an indicator reflecting the depth of the living and psychological crisis facing the population.

Suicide methods varied between gunfire, hanging, throwing oneself from high places, in addition to cases linked to psychological disorders and social traumas.

Daily recorded incidents since the beginning of the year, from Idlib, Deir ez‑Zor, and Daraa, all the way to Damascus and Latakia, show that economic pressures, high unemployment rates, and the decline of basic services have become major factors pushing wide segments of society to the brink of psychological collapse.

The Observatory warns that the continued absence of psychological and social support programs, along with deteriorating living conditions, makes these incidents a dangerous indicator of the worsening crises civilians are experiencing in various Syrian regions.
