News Center- The Coalition for Women in Journalism (CFWIJ) has released a statement on the additional 6-month prison sentences for Nobel Laureate Narges Mohammadi, Pakhshan Azizi for protesting the execution of Reza Rasaei in August 2024.

“Women Press Freedom condemns the recent six-month prison sentences imposed on Nobel Laureate NargesMohammadi and Pakhshan Azizi for protesting the execution of Reza Rasaei in August,” the CFWIJ wrote on the social media platform X on Wednesday.

“We denounce the Iranian regime's crackdown on dissent and urge int'l bodies to pressure Iran to stop undermining press freedom. We demand the immediate release and full exoneration of all imprisoned journalists.”

On October 22, journalist Pakhsahn Azizi, who was sentenced to death on July 23, 2024, women’s rights defender Warisha Moradi, Nobel Laureate Narges Mohammadi and Mahboubeh Rezaei received an additional six-month prison sentence for protesting the execution of Reza Rasaei on August 7, 2024 while political prisoner Parivash Moslemi received an additional three-month and one day sentence.
