In the statement, the women say this year’s motto for Newroz is “Let’s resist and be free with the fire of Newroz”. “Newroz is the name of the resistance and free co-life of Mesopotamian peoples, particularly of the Kurdish people. Newroz is the oldest epic of resistance and freedom in history. Newroz is the victory of organized enlightenment against organized darkness. Newroz is the name of the day declaring that the system of exploitation will never succeed in the face of the spirit of freedom. Newroz is a memory. It is a historic trace that all people of Middle Eastern will never forget,” says the statement.
“Newroz is an epic of freedom that began at the beginning of history and gets stronger today. The day of Newroz is the day for women, youths, and all oppressed and exploited people to resist. Newroz is the struggle for existence. It is a form of resistance. Newroz is a stance against oppression and exploitation. It is the scream for freedom. Every day, we see the ugly wars waged by ruling power in the faces of women being sold in slave markets, of children washed ashore. Newroz celebrations have great importance against the system consists of power-state, a form of the outdated male mindset, while massacres have been carried out against human beings,” the statement says, “We must flow to the street for our free future by remembering ‘The darkest moment of the night happens just before dawn’, the motto of Newroz, our historic resistance tradition.
