Baha'i psychologist arrested in Iran
Baha'i psychologist and translator Newsha Badie Sabet has been arrested by Iranian security forces.
News Center- The crackdown on different beliefs in Iran continues. On August 15, Iranian security forces raided the house of a Baha'i citizen named Suzan Eid Mohammadzadegan in Babol.
Baha’I psychologist Newsha Badie Sabet was at the home of Suzan Eid Mohammadzadegan as a guest when Iranian security forces raided her residence. Newsha Badie Sabet was arrested and taken to an unknown location.
According to the local sources, Suzan Eid Mohammadzadegan was also arrested.
The Baháʼí International Community (BIC) released a statement on August 16 and said that approximately 60 members of the Baha’I faith have been arrested or imprisoned in recent weeks. The community also announced that 59 Baha’i-owned businesses were reportedly sealed by the authorities and the homes of nine others were raided and searched.
In Iran, Shia Islam is the state religion. The constitution recognizes several minority faiths, including Christianity, Judaism, and Zoroastrianism, but not the Baha'i faith although the Baha’i community have more than seven million followers worldwide, including some 300,000 in Iran.
