Libya- The Awareness Ambassadors Project, a program launched by the Women’s Support Unit of Yemen’s High National Elections Commission, aims to promote women’s political participation in Libya.

Female Awareness Ambassadors carry out activities such as seminars and meetings especially during election processes to advance women’s political participation.

“Female ambassadors in Sabha received a series of training. They know everything about election processes,” said Zainab Misbah Al-Ahirsh, an employee of the Women's Support Unit in the city of Sabha. “The ambassadors in Sabha played an important role in promoting women’s political participation at previous elections. We hope that they will play a more effective role in the upcoming elections.”

Speaking about the activities of the ambassadors, she said, “Despite all the challenges, they play an important role in raising awareness among women by distributing leaflets and holding awareness-raising seminars. One of the challenges faced by them is the lack of transportation. They have to travel to remote regions in order to raise awareness. We overcome these challenges to increase women’s turnout in elections.”

Pointing out that their aim is to reach women in all regions in the country, Zainab Misbah Al-Ahirsh said, “We received a series of training to teach women how to register to vote and get a voter registration card. All these efforts aim to raise awareness of women's political participation. The visible improvement in women’s situation makes us feel good.”

Zainab Misbah Al-Ahirsh concluded her speech with the following words:

“Despite the traditions and challenges faced by women, I am hopeful that more women will participate in politics and decision-making positions. Women will play an effective role in the building of society in the future. We will keep working so that everyone has equal opportunities.”
