Kabul- Afghan women held a protest at Shahr-e Naw Park of Kabul against the restrictions on their rights. During the protest, the protesters demanded the removal of the barriers they have faced in their social, educational, and working lives after the Taliban took over the country on August 15. The women activists held banners reading, “Gender equality is a must for the development of Afghanistan”, “We demand our jobs and freedom”, “Why does the international community keep silent? Don’t you hear the voices of Afghan women?” and “Protect the rights of Afghan women. Women’s rights are human rights.”

The women activists called out to the Taliban, who announced that women should not go to work until further notice after taking the control of the country. Activist Shukriya Sadat made a speech on the behalf of the protesters and called on the Taliban, “What you say today does not reflect the general opinion of the people. If the Taliban keep tyrannizing, they will be overthrown. Listen to women.”
