AL-HASAKAH– Under the weight of harsh living conditions in displacement camps, the desire to return home emerges as an inevitable option for thousands of families. However, the reality of the targeted areas imposes challenges that exceed the ability of the displaced to endure. These obstacles are not limited to the massive destruction of infrastructure and residential buildings, but extend to include the absence of protection.

Yesterday, Monday, the fifth of October, the third convoy of displaced persons from the city of Sari Kani (Ras al-Ain) set off, comprising 511 families from the residents of the "Washokani" camp and shelter centers. This step comes after two previous convoys: the first included 410 families and was attacked while passing through the city, while the second, comprising 689 families, headed toward Tal Tamr and Zarkan. With this new journey, the displaced renewed their demands for opening a safe road that ensures their direct return to their city center.

Yazi Assaf, from the Arab component and one of the residents of the center of Sari Kani city, stood waiting for the convoys of returnees at the camp gate to join them. She explained that she had been unable to return previously because her house is located in the city center, noting that she seeks to convey her voice and appeal through the media to open safe roads that ensure their stable return.

She drew attention to the scale of the risks facing the returnees, saying that she tried to return to her home in Sari Kani last Saturday, but she faced direct death threats from a woman and a group accompanying her, which forced her to flee and return again to the camp.

She added that her house and the buildings adjacent to it in the city center were subjected to great destruction, noting that the current return trips are limited to the surrounding villages only, while the residents of the city center are still unable to enter it. "We demand that the concerned authorities intervene urgently to find a radical solution and secure a safe passage that ensures the safety of residents wishing to return to their homes."

Regarding the harsh conditions that the displaced are living through, she explained that the suffering of the camp's residents worsens with the arrival of winter, rain, and cold. "My only wish is to secure a safe passage that ensures our return to our home in the city center."
