950 cases of gender-based violence recorded in Egypt in 2023
950 cases of violence against women and femicide were recorded in Egypt in 2023, the Edraak Foundation for Development and Equality said in a report on Thursday.
News Center- The Observatory of Violent Crimes against Women at the Edraak Foundation for Development and Equality released a report on Thursday on statistics of violence against women and femicide in Egypt in 2023.
In 2023, the observatory recorded 950 crimes of violence against women and girls, ranging from femicide, attempted murder, rape, severe beatings, extortion, sexual and online harassment, the report said. Of 950 cases, 492 were domestic violence cases, 364 femicide cases, 81 rape cases, 66 physical violence cases, 82 attempted femicide cases, 82 sexual harassment cases and 42 theft cases.
The report also gave information about suicide cases among women and girls in 2023. The observatory recorded 97 cases of suicide deaths, 34 cases of suicide attempts.
Since 2020, The Observatory of Violent Crimes against Women at the Edraak Foundation for Development and Equality has published annual reports on violence against women and femicide in Egypt.
