9 women detained in Van

Nine women have been taken into custody in Van for chanting slogans during a march held on the International Women’s Day.

Wan (Van)- Police raided many homes in the city of Van in the morning. After the home raids, nine women, including the members of NGOs and political parties, were detained. The women have been reportedly detained for chanting slogans during a march held in the city on the International Women’s Day. The detained women have been reportedly taken to Van Provincial Police Department for interrogation.

 

The names of detained women are: Caziye Duman, Co-mayor of Saray Municipality held by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP); Gülşen Kurt, Co-chair of the Serhat Association for Migration Research; Rêya Armûşê (İpekyolu) Municipality Council Member Özlem Tuci; Hatice Barıştıran; Green Left Party (Turkish: Yeşil Sol Parti) Van Provincial Co-chair Gönül Uzunay; Hanım Kaya, member of the Association of Assistance, Solidarity, Unity and Culture with Families Losing Their Relatives in the Cradle of Civilizations (MEBYA-DER); Edibe Babur, Co-chair of the Association for Assistance and Solidarity with the Families of Detainees and Convicts (TUHAY-DER); Zeynep Kaya, activist of the Free Women's Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA) and Tuşba Municipality Council Member Songül Işık.
