News Center- 81-year-old Makbule Özer, who lives in the Artemêt (Edremit) district of Van province, was detained and then transferred to prison at the Van Courthouse after the Forensic Medicine Institution (ATK) prepared a report saying, “She could stay in prison”.

On July 28, 2018, Makbule Özer and her husband, Hadi Özer, were taken into custody along with their children in a house raid. The couple was sentenced to two years and six months in prison on charges of “aiding a terrorist organization”. Makbule Özer and her husband were arrested on May 9, 2022 and transferred to Van Prison after their prison sentences were upheld by the Turkish Supreme Court.

On September 7, 2022, Makbule Özer was temporarily released from prison because her health was deteriorating. Her husband, Hadi Özer, was released from prison on January 16, 2023, after serving two years and six month in prison.
