26th Flying Broom International Women Films Festival ends

The 26th Flying Broom International Women Films Festival ended after the closing ceremony. At the festival, 66 films from different countries were screened.

News Center- The 26th Flying Broom International Women Films Festival, annually held by the Flying Broom Foundation, has ended. At the closing ceremony of the festival, the winners of the FIPRESCI prize received their awards.

The jury consisting of Ayla Kanbur, scriptwriter and academic, French cinema critic Hélène Robert and Polish film critic and journalist Piotr Czerkawski awarded Mexican director Lila Avilés, who won the FIPRESCI Prize at the 73rd Berlin Film Festival for her movie “Tótem”, to the FIPRESCI prize at the 26th Flying Broom International Women’s Festival.

The statement announcing the winner of the prize said, “We would like to give the FIPRESCI prize to a film that invites us to an extraordinary birthday in which cultural taboos fade in front of the camera through the curious eyes of a child and people come together with the inevitable power of nature: Tótem.”

 After receiving the prize, Lila Avilés said, “I thank the team of the festival and everyone. I have spent great days in Ankara. I am very happy. The continuation of such initiatives is very important.”

66 films were screened

The 26th Flying Broom International Women Films Festival kicked off at the Büyülü Fener Kızılay Movie Theater in Ankara on May 31 with the motto, “More, Not Less”. During the festival, 66 films from different countries were screened with the aim of making women visible in cinema and encouraging young female filmmakers.
