Iranian poet Simin Behbahani received the prize on behalf of Iranian women.
Created in 2008, the Simone de Beauvoir Prize is an international human rights prize for women's freedom in honor of the French author and philosopher Simone de Beauvoir, the author of “The Second Sex”. The prize is awarded annually to a person or group that defends and promotes women’s freedom.
