10-year prison sentence given to Kadir Şeker upheld
The Turkish Supreme Court has upheld a 10-year prison sentence given to Kadir Şeker, who killed a man while trying to prevent him from battering a woman.
News Center- The Turkish Supreme Court has upheld a 10-year prison sentence given to Kadir Şeker, who killed Özgür Duran while trying to prevent him from battering Ayşe Dırla in Konya province.
Kadir Şeker, who was preparing for the university entrance exams, saw Özgür Duran battering his partner Ayşe Dırla in a park in Konya’s Selçuklu district on February 5, 2020. When he went to intervene, he was physically attacked by Özgür Duran. A fight broke out and Kadir Şeker stabbed Özgür Duran to death.
Arrested for killing Özgür Duran, Kadir Şeker was first sentenced to life imprisonment. Then, the court handed down its judgement and sentenced him to 15 years in prison. With good conduct abatement, his prison sentence was reduced to 12 years and six months. However, the 1st Chamber of the Supreme Court of Appeals overturned the verdict, stating that the sentence given to Kadir Şeker was high.
Kadir Şeker stood trial again. The Konya 3rd High Criminal Court reduced his sentence to 10 years and 10 months. Kadir Şeker was released from prison after his lawyers later objected at the Konya 4th High Criminal Court to the continuation of his detention. He had spent two years, five months and a day behind bars.
Today, the Turkish Supreme Court has upheld the 10-year prison sentence given to Kadir Şeker.
