Sudanese women journalists shine globally by winning Telly Awards 2026
Sudanese journalists Rasha Ibrahim and Aya El-Baz won two bronze awards at the 2026 Telly Awards, beating over 14,000 entries from 55 countries, a new achievement for Sudanese media internationally.
News Center _ The Sudanese media scene witnessed a new achievement following the announcement that journalists Aya EI-Baz and Rasha Ibrahim won two bronze awards at the 47th edition of the Telly Awards.
The journalists won for video productions produced by Al-Hurra TV, standing out among thousands of entries this year in what was described as the widest competition in the award’s history, with major media and production institutions from around the world participating.
Journalist Aya El‑Baz won the award for her report "Reviving the University of Khartoum in Sudan," which received wide acclaim for its deep humanitarian treatment.
The report presented a powerful visual narrative of the reality of the capital Khartoum, highlighting the resilience of the academic community amid challenges, and efforts to revive life in one of the region's oldest universities.
Journalist Rasha Ibrahim won the award for her report "Forgotten Darfur: Fragmented Justice and Widespread Crimes," which boldly and clearly addressed issues of justice and violations in the Darfur region.
The report affirmed that "true journalism does not forget and does not remain silent," presenting a visual documentation of a complex humanitarian reality and highlighting the suffering of the population in the absence of justice.
This achievement represents a qualitative addition to the presence of Sudanese media in international forums, especially in the field of "human stories" and "visual narrative."
It reflects the ability of Sudanese journalists to produce high‑quality professional content that documents suffering and hope, and highlights the crucial issues facing Sudan before a global audience.
It is worth noting that the Telly Awards are among the most prominent global awards in television and digital production, awarded annually since 1979 in recognition of outstanding work in television, video, and digital media.
