4,300 children’s victims of the ongoing conflict in Sudan for more than three years
Since the outbreak of conflict in Sudan, nearly 4,300 children have been killed or disabled, a serious indicator of the scale of the catastrophe affecting the most vulnerable group, according to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
News Center _ UN warnings are escalating regarding the unprecedented deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Sudan, especially among children and mothers, as the conflict in Sudan continues since April 2023 with no signs of an imminent resolution.
UNICEF reported yesterday, wedneseday,April 15, that approximately 4,300 children have been killed or disabled since the conflict in Sudan began, a grave sign of the magnitude of the disaster affecting the most vulnerable groups. It noted that 78% of child injuries resulted from drone attacks, reflecting the increasing use of this type of weapon during the war.
Grave violations
The organization documented more than 5,700 grave violations against children, most concentrated in the Darfur (west) and Kordofan (central) regions, where the fiercest clashes are taking place. It also recorded the killing of 160 children and the serious injury of dozens of others during the first quarter of this year.
In a related context, Save the Children warned that the maternal mortality rate in Sudan has risen to 12% this year, amid the collapse of the health system and the decline of basic services.
Since April 2023, the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have been engaged in a conflict that has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and the displacement of about 13 million people, and has also caused a famine considered among the worst in the world.
