Mahboubeh Shabani faces execution risk amid escalating threats against women prisoners in Iran
Mahboubeh Shabani faces death sentence risk on 'Moharebeh' charge as pressures mount on women prisoners, with Warisha Moradi, Bakhshan Azizi, Shahnaz Tabari also facing harsh sentences.
News Center — According to published reports, Mahboubeh Shabani, 30 years old, and one of the detainees in connection with the protests of December last year, faces the charge of "Moharebeh," a charge that may expose her to the risk of a death sentence or its execution.
Reports indicate that Mahboubeh Shabani was arrested on February 2 in the city of Mashhad, in front of a sports club, by intelligence agents. According to informed sources, she was arrested violently, and her motorcycle was confiscated.
Information suggests that the charge against her relates to assisting injured protesters during the protests of January 8 and 9 last year in Mashhad, including transporting the injured to medical centers and hospitals.
Mahboubeh Shabani is currently being held in the sixth section (women's section) of Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad. Sources close to her case have expressed concern over her situation, especially given the lack of family support after the death of her parents, in addition to the security pressures she is facing.
The increasing risk of harsh sentences against women prisoners comes at a time when concerns have previously been raised about the conditions of women such as Warisha Moradi, Bakhshan Azizi, and Shahnaz Tabari, who face heavy sentences or the possibility of increased punishment, including execution.
In recent months, human rights organizations have repeatedly warned of the increasing use of the charge of "Moharebeh" against protesters, a charge that can lead to death sentences.
Human rights reports also point to the difficult conditions faced by protest detainees, as many suffer from being denied access to a lawyer, security pressures, and the absence of a fair trial.
