The internet outage crisis in Iran has entered an unprecedented phase after NetBlocks, the global internet monitoring organization, announced that the total disruption of international connectivity has exceeded its 28th consecutive day, marking one of the longest periods of digital isolation the country has seen in years.

According to the organization, millions of Iranians have effectively spent nearly half of 2026 without genuine access to the global network.

In its report issued today, Friday, March 27, it stated that the level of international internet connectivity remains at its lowest, with the organization recording a continuous outage lasting 648 hours, reflecting the extent of restrictions imposed on the flow of information both inside and outside the country.

NetBlocks warns that this widespread disruption deals a direct blow to citizens' right to free access to information, especially amid the sensitive political and social circumstances Iran is undergoing, affirming that millions of people have become isolated from the outside world, both in terms of personal communication and following regional and international developments.

The report also highlighted the emergence of what the organization described as a "two-tier internet system," whereby government institutions and affiliated entities continue to enjoy full and unaffected internet access, while ordinary citizens face near-total disruption or severe service restrictions. The organization views this disparity as deepening the digital divide and raising questions about the authorities' motives in managing telecommunications infrastructure.

Despite the scope of the crisis, Iranian officials have issued no official clarifications regarding the reasons for the outage or its expected duration, further increasing the state of uncertainty and anxiety among citizens.
