Lebanon… Dead and Wounded, and Massive Displacement as Regional Confrontation Escalates.
Israeli airstrikes killed 9 and injured 47 in Lebanon; over one million displaced in three weeks as the humanitarian crisis deepens.
News Center – The US‑Israeli confrontation with Iran has expanded to take on a broader regional dimension after its repercussions extended to the Lebanese arena. This expansion indicates a new phase of military escalation that could have serious implications for the stability of the entire region.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced early Wednesday morning, March 25, that the death toll from Israeli airstrikes targeting several areas in southern Lebanon had risen to 9 dead and 47 wounded, in a notable escalation of tension on the Lebanese front.
In a statement, the ministry said that an Israeli strike targeted the town of Adloun in the Sidon district, killing four citizens and injuring another. In a separate statement, the ministry clarified that another strike targeted an apartment inside the Mieh Mieh Palestinian refugee camp in the same district, killing two people and injuring four others.
Earlier, the National News Agency reported that an Israeli strike on a town in the Nabatieh district killed at least three people and injured 18 others, raising the casualty toll in the south within a few hours.
Israel did not immediately comment on these strikes, but it had issued a warning to residents of seven neighborhoods in Beirut’s southern suburb (Dahiyeh), calling on them to evacuate in anticipation of imminent strikes.
Situation of the Displaced
Dalal Harb, official spokesperson for the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in Lebanon, commented on the situation of those displaced in Lebanon due to the ongoing attacks, noting that Lebanon has witnessed large‑scale displacement in a very short time. According to Lebanese authorities, more than one million people have been displaced in just three weeks.
She explained that nearly 18% of the Lebanese population is displaced, and approximately one in every five people is displaced—a staggering figure relative to Lebanon’s population. She affirmed that there is a tragic catastrophe and a major humanitarian crisis that could escalate and worsen further unless the Israeli escalation, attacks, and evacuation orders cease.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health revealed that the death toll from the ongoing Israeli attacks on Lebanon has risen to 1,072 dead and 2,966 injured since March 2 of this month. It noted that vast areas in Lebanon are being subjected to intense bombardment, resulting in more than a thousand dead and thousands injured, in addition to displacement exceeding one million people according to Lebanese authorities’ estimates, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the country.
