In a dangerous escalation targeting civilians, 551 people, including 18 children and several elderly individuals, were killed because of attacks targeting several Sudanese states during the Eid holiday, according to the “Mashad” human rights observatory.
News Center_ Sudan is witnessing a new wave of organized violence, amid human rights reports describing a systematic pattern of Killed and intimidation targeting populations in several states, while concerns are growing over the widening scope of violations and the unprecedented deterioration of the humanitarian situation.
The “Mashad” human rights observatory announced Yesterday, Sunday, March 22, that 511 Sudanese citizens, including 18 children and a number of elderly people, were killed in coordinated attacks targeting several Sudanese states during the Eid days, in what the observatory described as a “dangerous” escalation against civilians.
The observatory indicated that the attacks targeted the states of Darfur, Kordofan, White Nile, and Northern State. Some of these attacks were carried out using drones, resulting in hundreds of deaths and widespread destruction of infrastructure and public facilities. It emphasized that what happened amounts to fully-fledged war crimes.
The observatory considered carrying out attacks during Eid days a “double crime” and a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and the “sanctity of time.” It called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, and for holding those responsible accountable without impunity.
It also held all relevant parties fully responsible for these crimes and their severe humanitarian consequences, urging international organizations to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities and to intervene urgently to protect civilians, ensure the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid, and take effective measures to hold perpetrators accountable.
In the same context, the World Health Organization recorded more than 2,036 deaths in 213 attacks on healthcare facilities since the outbreak of conflict in Sudan in 2023.
