Qamishlo- Derya Remezan, a diplomatic representative of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), spoke to NuJINHA about the ongoing talks between Syria, Russia, Turkey and Iran. Recalling that the four countries had a talk on April 4, Derya Remezan said, “Syria, Russia, Türkiye and Iran had a meeting in Moscow on April 4. The ongoing talks show the start of a new process.”

‘The Middle East and the world are in chaos’

Noting that the Syria crisis has been going on for years, Derya Remezan said, “Meanwhile, the Russia-Ukraine war continues. In addition, Iran has interests in Syria and attacks Syrian territories and Israel. In other words, we can say that the Middle East and the world in general are in chaos. Every state tries to take something for itself in Syria. Russia started the Astana and Sochi talks before. Moreover, Russia already authorizes the government of Damascus to negotiate with Türkiye to make an alliance. The main aim of the meeting on April 4 was to reach an agreement between the Damascus government and Türkiye.”

‘No result has been gotten so far’

Talking about the content and aims of the talks between Syria and Türkiye, Derya Remezan said, “The Damascus government says that Turkey should withdraw completely from Syrian territories until they come to an agreement. In our opinion, as SDC, No result has been gotten from the talks so far. This indicates that the talks will continue with dirtier plans.”

‘The Turkish state attacks the Kurdish projects’

“If Syria and Türkiye come to an agreement, this agreement will be according to the interests of the both parties,” Derya Remezan said, “The Turkish state starts conflicts in neighboring countries such as Iraq, Libya and Cyprus while it attacks Syria. Türkiye has already occupied Syrian territory. Erdoğan just wants to win votes and he knows very well that the votes of the Kurds will determine the results of the upcoming elections in Türkiye. For this reason, the Turkish state keeps attacking the Kurdish projects in four parts of Kurdistan.”

‘We want to determine our destiny’

Pointing to the ongoing conflicts of the states in Syria, Derya Remezan said, “The Turkish state aims to revive the Ottoman Empire. It will keep Assad in power to realize its dream. While all countries act according to their own interests, we, as Syrian people, want to determine our destiny by discussing and supporting each other. If the Syrian people determine their own destiny, no one can touch their values. In addition, as the Syrian people, we do not accept any decision without us.” Derya Remezan also talked about the ongoing Turkish attacks on North and East Syria and said, “We condemn the ongoing Turkish attacks on our region and the silence of the international community against these attacks. Despite the international conventions and agreements, the Turkish state openly violates the borders and airspace of other states. Every state should take responsibility and    have an attitude against these attacks.”
