Saturday Mothers ask for whereabouts of disappeared Düzgün Tekin

The Saturday Mothers have asked for the whereabouts of Düzgün Tekin, who was tortured to death by JİTEM, Gendarmerie Intelligence and Counter-Terrorism, 27 years ago.

Istanbul- The Saturday Mothers held the 914th of their weekly protests demanding the whereabouts of their loved ones who disappeared in Turkey in the 1990s.

At the virtual protest, the mothers asked for the whereabouts of 21-year-old Düzgün Tekin, who was tortured to death after being abducted in Istanbul by the members of JİTEM, Gendarmerie Intelligence and Counter-Terrorism, 27 years ago.

Lawyer Ümmühan Kaya read a statement on behalf of the Saturday Mothers. Telling the story of Düzgün Tekin, Ümmühan Kaya first recalled the speech of Düzgün Tekin’s Elif Tekin. “My son Düzgün, where are you? I joined the Saturday Mothers to find you. I am left unanswered and do not know where to go.”

Stating that Düzgün Tekin was a unionist and followed by police before he disappeared, the statement said that Düzgün Tekin wrote down the license plate of the car that followed him and left the note at home. “On October 21, 1995, Düzgün Tekin left his relative's house located in Istanbul's Güneşli Evren neighborhood to go to his workplace in Bayrampaşa. Since then, no news has been received from him. After that day, the car waiting in front of the house did not come again,” the statement said.

His family applied to all official institutions to find him

After Düzgün Tekin went missing, his family applied to all official institutions to find him. At that time, the Human Rights Association (IHD) initiated legal action to find him. In addition, Amnesty International launched a campaign. Although years have passed, the fate of Düzgün Tekin is still unknown.
