News Center- The number of women instrument makers has been increasing in recent years. Meryem Surnamher, who makes and plays musical instruments in Iran, is one of the women instrument makers. She is also known as the first woman making harps in the country.

Famous musicians use the instruments made by her

Meryem Surnamher told us that she faced a lot of criticism at the beginning and started to work in a small workshop under difficult conditions. “I could not sell even an instrument for a year. I just made musical instruments. But today, many famous musicians use the kamancha (a Persian bowed string instrument) made by me at their concerts,” she said.

Stating that she makes kamancha as the student of Beyiz Emir Etayi, Meryem Surnamher told us that she always visits the workshops of Iranian musical instrument makers and buys instruments from them.

Instrument makers are also important

Stating that instrument makers play an important role in producing music but only singers are visible, Meryem Surnamher said, “Instrument makers and musicians should work together to produce great musical works.

“I love my job”

Indicating that the time for completing a musical instrument, she said that it takes about one month. “Only musicians know how important musical instruments are. I love my job and I give a magic touch on instruments with my love,” she told us.
